Ending the Silence of Mental Illness in Douglas, AZ

Douglas, AZ High School students participate in the Ending the Silence presentation.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, is reaching out to local high schools to reduce the stigma of mental illness and help teens and young adults understand how they can mentally and emotionally support one another. Lori Schectman, a NAMI SEAZ Board Member, leads the Ending the Silence presentation by presenting helpful materials and resources to teens and young adults that suffer from mental illnesses and thoughts of suicide. The presentation includes emotionally charged videos created by high schoolers that help remind students that they are not alone and that we need to talk about mental illness more.

Delia, a recent graduate from Buena High School, was also a vital part of the conversations that occured during the Ending the Silence presentation. Delia shared her experiences with mental illness, how mental illness effected her life, and how she was able to cope and eventually overcome her challenges with mental illness.
